Galway, traditionally known as the "City of the Tribes / Cathair na dTreabh" is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city in the west of Ireland, situated along the banks of the river Corrib against the breathtaking background of the Galway Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. A popular tourist destination, with a population of over 70.000, Galway is one of the exponents of Irish culture, famous for its Arts Festival, musical events, the Galway races, or the Galway International Oyster Festival.

Beautifully situated along the Corrib river, the NUI Galway 260 acre campus is an ideal location for conferences, summer schools and events. Picturesque grounds, state of the art meeting facilities, excellent accommodation, a choice of restaurants and first class recreational amenities add to the attractiveness of NUI Galway as a conference destination.

  • Shannon Airport is the next bigger airport, offering direct flights from the US for New York, Boston, Chicago, for example.
  • Flights to Dublin Airport require you to travel onwards either with AerArann (see above), bus, or train.
  • Buses between Dublin or Shannon and Galway operate by CityLink, GoBus, or Bus Eirrann. Bus ride takes about 1:45 from Shannon and about 2:45 from Dublin.
